Green Moong Dal Masala is a whole green gram and it is very popular in Punjab. It is relished by all age groups. It is full of proteins. It was the perfect side to pair up with white rice and kadhi with chapati.
The simple and easy recipe cooked without onion and garlic. It is easy in cooking and you just need to keep it whole to intact the flavors. A versatile and extremely healthy masala recipe that you prepare with very little effort.
Ingredients:
- 2 cup whole moong dal
- 1 Tablespoon oil
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- A pinch of asafoetida
- 1 teaspoon ginger paste
- 1 green chili finely chopped
- 1/2 Teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/4 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
- 1/2 teaspoon dry mango powder
- Salt to taste
- Chopped coriander leaves
Method:
- Soak the whole moong in water for 7-8 hours.
- After soaking drain and wash moong.
- Heat oil in a pressure cooker and add cumin seeds.
- When cumin seeds splutter add asafoetida, ginger paste, and chopped green chili and mix well.
- Add turmeric powder, drained moong, red chili powder, coriander powder, salt, and two tablespoon water and mix well.
- Cover the lid of the pressure cooker and cook it for two whistles is on high flame.
- After that switch off the flame.
- When the pressure settles down on its own, open the lid and check the moong.
- If they still have a slight bite to them, then add some water and pressure cook for some more whistles.
- When moong cooked then add garam masala powder and dry mango powder and mix well.
- Now Green Moong Dal Masala is ready to serve.
- Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
