Tricolour Onion Appam recipe, How to make tricolour onion appam

A special tricolour Appam to celebrate independence day in true spirit. A very easy to make and healthy recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup semolina(suji)
  • 1 cup curd
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 1 green chilly finely chopped
  • 1-inch ginger grated
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon red chilly powder
  • 2 tablespoon oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1/2 grated carrot
  • 1 teaspoon tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon green chutney
  • 1 pinch green colour

Method:

  • Mix Semolina in curd and chopped onion, salt, red chilly powder, green chilly and ginger and mix well.
  • Add water and make a smooth paste. The paste should not be too much thick or not watery.
  • Now divide this batter into three equal parts for making tricolour appam.
  • For making orange colour add grated carrot and tomato sauce into one part.
  • For making the green colour add green coriander chutney and a pinch of green colour into the second part and leave the third part as it is.
  • Preheat appam maker and pour some oil into each mould.on the maker and add a pinch of mustard seeds and take mixture in a spoon and fill the mould. Do not mix the colour.
  • After filling all the mould, cover and cook for 2 minutes on low flame.
  • When the appams get golden brown from, flip sides.
  • Cover again and cook for 2 minutes. Cook until appam get golden brown in colour on both sides.
  • Our tricolour appam is ready to serve.
  • Serve with green chutney or sauce.
